Our Mission: Finishing the Setup, Not Selling the Licence
A trade licence is roughly a third of what a company needs before it can invoice, bank, hire and file.
Our Mission: Finishing the Setup, Not Selling the Licence
The licence is the part everybody sells, because it is the part with a price on it. It is also the part that, on its own, lets you do almost nothing.
A company that holds a trade licence and nothing else cannot take a payment, cannot employ anyone, cannot sponsor a residence permit, and in several activities cannot legally begin work — the fuller account of what a new licence does not yet let you do runs alongside this page. None of that is a defect in the licence. It is simply that a licence is one of six conditions, and a founder who has been sold one of six reasonably believes they are finished.
Our mission is the other five. It is a narrow claim and a deliberate one: we are not trying to be the cheapest route to a licence, and we would rather lose that comparison than win it and hand you a company that cannot operate. What we structure for while the rules keep moving is a separate statement, our vision.
The six things that must all be true
Not a process. A set of conditions — every one of which has to hold before a company is genuinely open.
A formation package, honestly described, covers 1 and 2, sells you 3, and may or may not include 4. Conditions 5 and 6 are where new companies stall — and they are the two that cannot be fixed by paying the formation fee again.
Two of the six are settled by the package, one is sold to you, one may or may not arrive with it, and the two at the end — a bank that will take the company, and the tax position — are the ones that cannot be bought a second time.

Why the order is not negotiable
Each condition constrains the next, which is why sequence is the whole game.
Five decisions, taken in that order: each settles something the one after it needs, and each carries a different cost when it is taken out of turn.
The activity decides the structure. Some activities cannot be held in a free zone at all. Some require a second authority's approval before the licensing authority will issue anything. Choose the zone first because it is cheap and you may find the activity is unavailable there, at which point the cheap licence has to be replaced rather than amended.
The structure decides who you may sell to. This is the single most expensive misunderstanding in UAE formation, and it survives because it is inconvenient. Foreign ownership stopped being the thing that separates a free zone company from a mainland one. What still separates them is where your goods and services may go. A free zone company selling directly into the mainland market has a problem that no amount of ownership reform fixed.
The premises decide the visa count. Visa quota follows the physical facility, not the licence and not the fee you paid. A founder who signs a flexi-desk and then plans six residence permits has bought a constraint without noticing. Fixing it means changing premises, which means changing the lease, which means going back to the beginning of the immigration file.
The bank decides whether any of it was worth doing. Banks assess the activity, the ownership chain, the substance behind the address and the traceability of funds. They do it after the licence exists, using the licence as evidence. A structure assembled purely for cost will frequently read to a bank as a structure assembled to obscure something, and the account application is where that judgement lands.
The tax position hardens on a schedule you do not control. Your first tax period begins with your first financial year on or after 1 June 2023, and it can run between six and eighteen months. Decisions taken at formation — the financial year end, the shareholding, whether you group — are difficult and sometimes impossible to reverse once that period has closed.
five decisions, in the only order that does not double back
Taken in turn, it settlesTaken out of turn, it costs
- The activityWhich structures are available; some cannot be held in a free zone at allThe cheap licence has to be replaced rather than amended
- The structureWhere your goods and services may go, which ownership reform never changedA free zone company selling straight into the mainland has a problem no reform fixed
- The premisesThe visa count, because quota follows the physical facility and not the feeA new lease, and the immigration file goes back to the beginning
- The bankWhether the assembly reads as a business, on the licence as evidenceA structure built for cost reads as one built to obscure something
- The tax positionThe financial year end, the shareholding, and whether you groupHard and sometimes impossible to reverse once the first period has closed
What reversing the order produces
The pattern is consistent enough to name. A founder buys the cheapest licence that appears to cover the activity, discovers at the bank stage that the activity and the premises do not support the story, and is then told the solution is a different licence in a different zone. The second licence costs more than the first, the first is not refundable, and four to eight weeks have gone. Nothing illegal happened. The order was simply wrong.
The file leaves the founder's hands and comes back to them: the second licence costs more than the first, the first is not refundable, and four to eight weeks have gone.

What we undertake to do
Concrete, and checkable against our own conduct:
- Ask what you intend to do commercially, before quoting. Not which licence you want — what you will invoice for, who pays you, where they are, and what you will need to prove to a bank.
- Tell you when the plan will not survive one of the six conditions, at the point it is cheap to change rather than after the licence is issued.
- Quote the whole of what we know. Where a cost is genuinely variable we will say so and say what drives it, rather than quoting a headline and adding the rest later.
- Refuse work we cannot complete. If an activity cannot be licensed as described, or the structure cannot support the visa count, we would rather not start.
- Name one person accountable for your file, and tell you what happens to it if that person is unavailable.
- Hand the tax question across before the structure closes, not after the first financial year has ended.
- Put the boundary in writing. What is in scope, what is coordination, and what is somebody else's to sign — the engagement boundaries themselves are set out in who we are.
What we will not do
Equally concrete, because a commitment with no refusals attached is a slogan. The longer list of shortcuts we decline is written out in our values.
- We will not write an activity on an application that does not match the business. It is the most common shortcut in this market, it makes the application pass faster, and it is the single thing most likely to cost you a bank account and an amendment later.
- We will not promise a bank account. No provider can. An introduction is not an approval, and anyone presenting it as one is selling you their relationship rather than your outcome.
- We will not recommend a zone because of what it pays us. Being an authorized channel partner means a zone's own fee schedule reaches you without a markup from us and that we are accountable to that authority for how its product is represented. It does not mean the zone that pays best is the zone you need, and you are entitled to ask us why a particular one was proposed.
- We will not quote a figure we cannot source. Government fees change. Where we do not have a current published figure we will say so rather than produce a number that reads as authoritative.
- We will not tell you a deadline has moved because it suits the schedule. Filing dates are set by the authority, and a provider who is relaxed about them is a provider who will be unavailable when the penalty arrives.
The licensing authority
- Whether the activity can be licensed as describedBefore anything is issued
- Whether the activity can be held in a free zone at allSettled before the zone is chosen, whether you ask or not
A second authority
- The prior approval that some activities needBefore the licensing authority will issue anything
The premises you lease
- How many residence permits the facility carriesFixed by the facility, not by the licence or the fee
The bank
- The activity, judged again on its own termsAfter the licence exists
- The ownership chain behind the companyAfter the licence exists
- The substance behind the addressAfter the licence exists
- The traceability of the fundsAfter the licence exists

Where this mission is the wrong purchase
- You already know exactly what you need and want it executed at the lowest price. If the activity is settled, the zone is settled, the premises are settled and you need no advice, you are buying a transaction rather than a judgement. Providers compete hard on that and some of them are good at it.
- You need the licence this week for a reason that cannot move. Our sequence asks questions first. If a deadline makes that impossible, take the fastest route and accept that you may be amending it later — but make that choice knowingly rather than discovering it.
- Your objective is residence rather than a business. A company is a slow and expensive way to obtain a permit if the company itself has no purpose. There are routes decided on your own credentials rather than on a licence, and they do not require you to buy anything from us.
- You want somebody to agree with a plan you have already decided. We will say where it breaks. If that is unwelcome, the engagement will be unpleasant for both of us.
What to do next

Describe the business rather than the licence. What you will sell, to whom, where they are, and what you will need to prove about the money. Every one of the six conditions above is answerable from that, and none of them is answerable from "which zone is cheapest".
the one question that decides whether you need advice at all
- Say what you will sellThe activity, which decides which structures are even available
- Say who pays you and where they areThe structure, which decides who you may sell to
- Say what you will need to prove about the moneyWhat a bank assesses after the licence exists
- Is the activity settled, the zone settled and the premises settled, with no judgement left
- Everything is already settledYou are buying a transaction, and firms that compete on lowest price are often good at it
- Any one of them is still openYou are buying a judgement, and the questions come before the quote
- Whether anything is still openNone of the six conditions is answerable from which zone is cheapest
The rest of this site is organised the same way: each service page states where it is the wrong purchase, and each free zone profile states what that zone is bad at. That is not modesty. It is the only way a reader can tell the difference between advice and a sales process.
Frequently asked questions
Is a trade licence enough to start trading in the UAE?
No. The licence is one of six conditions that all have to hold before a company is genuinely open: the activity described correctly, a structure that suits the ownership and the intended market, premises that carry the visa count you are relying on, an establishment and labour file, a bank that has accepted the company as a customer, and a tax position understood before the first year closes.
A company holding the licence and nothing else cannot take a payment, cannot employ anyone, cannot sponsor a residence permit, and in several activities cannot lawfully begin work.
What does a formation package usually leave out?
Described honestly, a package settles the activity and the structure, sells you the premises, and may or may not include the establishment and labour files. The two conditions it does not reach are the ones where new companies stall: a bank actually taking the company, and the tax and compliance position.
Neither of those can be fixed by paying a formation fee a second time, which is why we would rather raise them before the licence is issued than after.
Can you guarantee that a bank will open an account for my company?
No, and no provider can. Banks assess the activity, the ownership chain, the substance behind the address and the traceability of funds, and they do that after the licence exists, using the licence as evidence. An introduction is not an approval, and a firm presenting it as one is selling you its relationship rather than your outcome.
A structure assembled purely for cost will frequently read to a bank as a structure assembled to obscure something. The account application is where that judgement lands.
Why does the order of these decisions matter so much?
Because each condition constrains the next. The activity decides which structures are even available, the structure decides who you may sell to, the premises decide the visa count, and the bank judges the whole assembly afterwards.
Reverse that order and the pattern is predictable: the cheapest licence that appears to cover the activity is bought, the bank stage exposes that the activity and the premises do not support the story, and the answer offered is a second licence in a different zone. It costs more than the first, the first is not refundable, and several weeks have gone. Nothing unlawful happened. The order was simply wrong.
Will you recommend a free zone because of what it pays you?
No. Being an authorized channel partner means a zone's own fee schedule reaches you without a markup from us, and that we are accountable to that authority for how its product is represented. It does not mean the zone that pays best is the zone you need.
You are entitled to ask us why a particular one was proposed, and to expect an answer in terms of your activity, your market and your visa count rather than in terms of price.
When is this the wrong firm to hire?
When the activity, the zone and the premises are all settled and you need no judgement, only execution at the lowest price — that is a transaction, and firms that compete on it are often good at it. Also when a fixed deadline leaves no room for questions first, and when your objective is residence rather than a business, because a company is a slow and expensive way to obtain a permit if the company has no purpose.
And if what you want is agreement with a plan already decided, we will say where it breaks, which makes the engagement unpleasant for both sides.
